Simon Alcantara was invited to participate in the Senior Jewelry Critique at Pratt Institute on Thursday, December 4, 2014. The students spent the summer researching, developing and selecting a thesis concept, and the fall semester was spent problem solving and executing these ideas.
Jewelry Artist Simon Alcantara along with Jonathan Wahl: Artist and Director of the 92 St Y and Jewelry Artist Timothy McMahon were teamed up with faculty members Prof. Anthony Tammaro, Prof. Katrin Zimmermann and Prof. Karen Bachmann, with the support of Prof. Patricia Madeja - Jewelry Coordinator and Alexia Cohen - Jewelry Technician.
The invited guests roles were to evaluate the current direction the work is taking and provide thoughtful criticism that would help guide the students into the next stage of development. They addressed interpretation of theme, design, execution, craftsmanship, and suggestions for future directions the work could take.
The students are at a critical place in the development of their thesis work and will soon be breaking for the holidays to process the panels’ comments and work through the challenges of moving the collection forward.
